Eddie Lake launched 2 homeruns and Fred Hutchinson pitched a 3 hitter at Briggs Stadium where the Detroit Tigers beat the Boston AL Red Sox by thescore of 3 to 2. Hutchinson(12-8) looked very much in control throughout the night. He surrendered only 3 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings and surrendered 2'round-trippers'. Boston AL was retired without difficulty in the 9th. Bill Zuber(5-3) was given the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 2innings.
