Baltimore takes two of three under the big Hefty bag in Minnesota.
Game 1: BAA 9, MNA 6
In the top of the 3rd, a two-base error by Paul Molitor set up a sac fly by Lenny Webster for the Orioles' first run.� One out later, perhaps still unsettled by the freebie, Twins starter Jimmy Key gave up back-to-back homers to Yamil Benitez and Craig Biggio to make it 3-0.� Jeffrey Hammonds added another solo shot for the O's in the 4th, but after a Ron Coomer error, another potential unearned run was saved when Stan Javier threw Cal Ripken out at the plate to end the inning.� Coomer's next error, in the 6th, didn't turn out as well, as it helped to set up a bases-clearing double by Webster for a 7-0 Baltimore lead.� In the 7th, another Twins defensive lapse -- this time a passed ball -- set up an RBI single by Hammonds, who scored on a Ripken double for a nine-run lead.� O's starter Charles Nagy cruised into the bottom of the 7th with a three-hit shutout before Terry Steinbach's 2-run homer put Minnesota on the board.� However, after a fatigued Nagy loaded the bases in the 8th, reliever Jesse Orosco walked in a run.� After another scored on a double play, the O's thought they were out of the inning.� But after two more walks, Coomer singled in a run and Arthur Rhodes (Baltimore's fourth pitcher of the inning) walked in another run to get the Twins back in the game with just a three-run deficit.� Considering that the O's gave up six walks and a hit batsman in the same inning, it could have been worse.� The Twins threatened again in the 9th, but closer Randy Myers struck out the only two batters he faced to notch his 23rd save.� Nagy's record improved to 10-5 despite his fat 5.13 ERA.
Game 2: MNA 3, BAA 2
In the 3rd inning, with one out and Benitez on 2nd, Orioles manager Charlie Steinhice inexplicably had Mike Bordick bunt him to 3rd, where he stayed. � In the 5th, with Benitez on 1st, Steinhice let Bordick hit.� Result: a rare homer and a 2-0 lead. Like Nagy in Game 1, Baltimore starter Curt Schilling took a shutout into the 7th, but a single by Stan Javier and a two-run double by Coomer put Minnesota on top .� The Twins turned a critical 1-6-3 double play in the 9th to seal the deal, giving Robert Person his tenth win of the season, while Schilling fell to 15-8.. �
Game 3: BAA 5, MNA 1
Matt Lawton took Mike Mussina deep in the 2nd for a 1-0 Minnesota lead.� In the top of the 5th, the Orioles tied it on a wild pitch and took a 2-1 lead on a single by Rafael Palmeiro before leaving the bases loaded.� Benitez singled in an insurance run in the 8th; in the top of the 9th, Roberto Alomar singled in another run and BJ Surhoff added a sac fly to make it 5-1.� With a four-run lead, Mussina stayed in to record a complete game, improving his record to 11-7.
